Leather
Leather garments are an investment which should be cleaned by skilled professionals. Routine cleaning is recommended to aid in the longevity of your leather products. A complete cleaning twice a year, followed by a conditioner and protectant, will maintain the finish and increase durability.
A crucial part of successful leather cleaning is the removal of oil stains and residues such as those found on collars. Part of the removal process involves the loss of natural oils. These oils must be replaced.
At Schelling's, we contract with the most up-to-date service in the entire northwest to handle the most difficult stain removal and color restoration possible. Athletic jackets, coats, vests, skirts, pants, furs, and shearlings are cleaned, reoiled and refinished. Our professional leathercare specialists also include the careful restoration of color and texture that can be lost as a natural consequence of the cleaning process.
Repairs as simple as button replacement to rehemming, patching, section replacement and complete relining are also available.
Fur Storage
Fur storage is a critical part of any fur's life span. All furs are stored in a temperature and humidity controlled storage vault, providing the ideal storage environment for optimum fur care. Humidified air is continually circulated throughout the vault. This keeps natural oils from drying out, and maintains the sheen and luster.
Fur Cleaning
All furs are cleaned using a special non-immersion process commonly referred to as the furrier method. Linings are hand cleaned to remove makeup, dirt and ground-in soil. Furs are gently tumbled with solvent impregnated powders. Furs are glazed by an electrifying process that brings out the natural oils of the pelts to provide a lustrous appearance. Linings are pressed. Fur and lining seams are repaired as needed. Great care is taken to produce a beautiful, luxurious fur garment just for you.
Sheepskin and Seat covers
Sheepskins are selectively processed by the fur cleaning method or solvent methods depending on the type of skins and tanning techniques that were used. Both methods are charged with oils as in leather cleaning which simultaneously replenishes oils to the hides. This allows the skin to retain its soft, pliable nature.
After cleaning, the sheepskin is de-matted by an electrifying process which fluffs the fur to a full and luxurious condition. Lastly the sheepskin is hand brushed and packaged to complete the fresh fluffy appearance.
Note: Sheepskins should be checked carefully for stains, skin separation and hard spots on back. Some color loss is to be expected due to oxidation from exposure to sunlight and synthetic brighteners.
